Possible CoQ10 Side Effects: Both Minor and Serious
No comments · Posted by admin in General
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance that is very essential in the body. The human body is capable of producing it by its own, which makes it unnecessary for most people to take supplements. However, people with certain medical conditions may have low levels of CoQ10, which makes it necessary for them to take supplements. CoQ10 has several benefits and studies show that it helps with health conditions such as migraines, Parkinson’s disease, male infertility and mitochondrial diseases. It also works within the cells to prevent oxidation damage, stabilize cellular membranes and produce ATP. The CoQ10 dosage can be as low as 60 mg per day to as high as 300 mg per day.
What are the possible CoQ10 side effects?
Like many other drugs, medicines and supplements, COQ10 has some side effects too. The side effects of these supplements are minor and merely bothersome, and most people tolerate them well. The minor side effects of that can be expected include:
- Diarrhea
- Heartburn
- Nausea/vomiting
- Appetite loss
- Discomfort on the throat or upper chest.
According to studies, it is less likely for CoQ10 to cause severe or serious side effects. However, there is a slight possibility for the serious side effects to occur and it is important for them to be reported to a healthcare provider at once. The symptoms that should be reported are such as: Fainting or dizziness. This could be a sign of hypotension (low blood pressure). High liver enzymes. Severe allergic reactions such as breathing difficulty swallowing or breathing, unexplained swelling, hives, rash, itching or wheezing.
Those who may experience any of the serious CoQ10 side effects should seek medical assistance from their healthcare providers and it can be decided whether they should stop using the supplements. It is important for those in need of these supplements to choose those that are of high quality, and only from those manufacturers that are reputable. This can help to prevent the undersirable side effects.

Through the program, IRS personnel train community volunteers to prepare uncomplicated tax returns. The volunteers in turn provide free income tax preparation assistance to low income, elderly, disabled and limited-English-speaking community members.
Under the guidance of Felician College professor Joseph A. Lizza, MBA, CPA, all volunteers have been trained and tested in current tax law through a rigorous program provided by the Internal Revenue Service.
